Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an annual legume in the Fabaceae family, subfamily Faboideae. It is one of the oldest cultivated vegetables, and 9500-year-old remains have been found in the Middle East. Chickpea has great potential for increased cultivation in Brazil. Studies on chickpeas in Brazil have demonstrated the crop's high productive potential, particularly in the Cerrado de Cristalina, GO and Brasília, DF areas.
